Joyful July

 

My group went for a walk to Liston Park and watched a building being knocked down by a digger. I loved watching the walls fall down and make a great big crash! The walk back was just as fun, and when we returned, we built our own towers for the trucks and cars to crash into. I also walked up the Papamoa Hills with some of my friends from Arohanui. It was a long walk, but we were so excited when we reached the top and saw the amazing view. We all agreed that we would love to do it again! I have been lucky enough to do some volunteer work at the 15th Avenue SPCA op shop. We help sort donations, organizing the clothes from small to large and keeping all the same colors together. I also volunteer once a month at the Bridge Street op shop, and I really enjoy helping to put things away. We’ve had our first week back at drama, and I'm so excited! It has been a whole year since my last class. Right now, we are pretending that our studio is haunted. It's really scary and a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the term. During the winter months we go to the library instead of swimming. This past week  we have been searching for books on different indoor sports for us to do back at the centre like volleyball and indoor bowels mini soccer and basketball. I love all sports especially when I win and even when i dont win I always trick people and tell them that I did. I help with the centre shopping on mondays. I love pushing the trolley while we stock up on supplies like coffee and milk and cooking ingredients for the week. I am so happy to be cooking again. Last week we made a pumpkin and feta salad. We used salad vegetables from our own arohanui garden. It was healthy and tasty. I have actually been quite spoiled this term because I get to go to connect 20 to see all of my friends from the other centres and other services. I miss them when i dont get to see them for a while.

 Yipee it's the football world cup and my team I'm supporting is Mexico.

It's been a very exciting month. We've had the brass band visit and play for us and we've even had a masquerade ball. We all got dressed up and had a blue drink and a muffin that the staff and clients made for us. We had a real DJ that played for 

For art we have been learning about matariki. We made a whare out of iceblock sticks and buttons for stars. It looks so cool.

Music and more music. I just love music. We had an Abba dance party and I knew most of the songs. We practiced the waltz for our ball.

For my outings we have been on a walk to Toi Ohomai and had a look around at what people do there. It was really cool to see how many courses they have there. We also went to the historic village to visit the fairy garden. It was so cool.

I still get to go for my walk to the SPCA on a wednesday after my music and dance session. I always ask if I can take not ONE but TWO dogs home haha my staff members say no everytime.

My guys' group outings are always fun but this month was super fun because we went to ten pin to play pool and also played some arcade games and also went to the marble bar to play pool.

I'm still helping with the gardening, pulling weeds out and not the plants haha. There aren't a lot of flowers in the garden over winter. I like being outside in the garden and I especially like sweeping the pathway and keeping the centre look nice and tidy.

May update

 

This month I have been taking Fridays off from Arohanui and having a rest. I have been lucky enough to go centre shopping with a couple of friends from Arohanui. I collect and count the items we need for the centre like milk and rubbish bags and stuff like that.  We are still making our Mini Marae. We are now making the panels TOKITOKI  it is looking very cool and I can't wait until it will be finished before matariki. We have been making the most of the sunny weather and going for walks for our outings this week. Our walk was  at Johnson reserve. It's a nice walk with a waterfall at the end of it. Sports games are always fun for me because I get to use up a lot of my energy. We have been practicing ball skills by catching and throwing and even hitting the balls. I always enjoy my outing with my staff and friends from Arohanui. We have been to isla park and the race course and even bunnings park to play basketball. We had a special visitor last week. His name was Devon Briggs and he is a para-cyclist and has won lots and lots of medals. He brought his bike in and told us it was valued at  $120.000. That's a lot of money. I have been lucky enough to carry on going to connect 20 to visit my friends. I like to help my staff  by getting the cups for our drink.

Today we had a visit from one of New Zealand’s most high-profile para-cycling athletes, Devon Briggs. We asked him so many questions, and it was so inspiring to hear about his sporting journey. Gv

It was very nice to go to the community garden and water our plants. It was a lovely sunny day. Gv

Gardening

 

Today, for our garden session, we decided to do something different for a change. We decided to stay inside, nice and cozy, and do different garden activities such as colouring, word searches, and watching videos about gardening. It was so nice, and I learned a lot. GV

Acting/roleplay

 

Today we played charades. From animals to everyday activities and even famous musicians! I loved acting out a Monkey, it was so fun! - TR

Such a lovely afternoon spent blowing giant bubbles at the park — I absolutely loved it.Gv 

Operatunity concert

 Today we were very lucky and got to attend the operatunity concert at the Holy Trinity Church, it was a hoedown showdown and it was fabulous.

I had a blast in dance today and I loved leading everyone in my own dance.

Cooking

I enjoyed cooking vegetable patties today, we got to eat them with some nice chutney.TA

Anzac

 In acting and Roleplay we talked about Anzac Day. Dianne brought in cool army and navy uniforms that I had fun trying on. Especially the army uniform. D.H

I had loads of fun exploring different colours with baking soda. I really enjoyed getting to use a syringe to move the colours.

Today I had fun getting measured up for the ball to help me find the right sized suit! - TR

On the farm

 I had fun creating a farm on the table, I picked what animals I liked and made sure the farm hands were organised and ready to work. We watched  relaxing farm videos while we played. D.H

I had loads of fun singing karaoke with my friends. I chose so e different songs today, credence Clearwater revival was great
